Top Three Picks Still on Hold; Pittman Signs Four-Year Deal

Indications are that the top three draft picks of the Cleveland Browns will be late for the start of training camp.  The Browns begin pre-training camp orientation for rookies on Monday, but Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn and Eric Wright likely won’t be in attendance.  General Manager Phil Savage is not expecting the trio to be signed in time for the start of the three-day orientation.  Thomas played tackle at Wisconsin and was the third overall pick at this year’s NFL Draft.  Quinn played quarterback at Notre Dame and was taken with the 22nd overall choice in the first-round.  Wright, who played defensive back at UNLV, was taken in the second round.  The first practice of training camp will be held on July 27th.

The team did announce that seventh-round pick Chase Pittman signed on Wednesday.  The former LSU defensive lineman signed a four-year deal which runs through the 2010 season.  Pittman played in 25 games with the Tigers after transferring from Texas and collected five-and-a-half sacks for LSU as a senior last season.  Pittman became the first of the Browns’ seven draft picks to come to terms on a contract.
