Browns Make Frye as Starting QB Official

In the world’s worst kept secret, the Browns today officially named Charlie Frye the starter at QB for Sunday’s showdownFrye with the Steelers at Browns Stadium.  It was basically known on Thursday after the Browns win over the Bears that Frye would be the starter, but it didn’t come out until today when coach Romeo Crennel made it known to the media.  Of course just like it has been, Crennel refused to name Frye the starter for the course of the season.  “It doesn’t do me any good to say a guy’s the starter for the whole year,” he said. “Every position, I’ve told them, is not set in stone. Roles change.”

Frye started training camp behind Derek Anderson for the starters job, but Anderson faltered as camp moved along, and Frye moved ahead and never lost the job.  As for Brady Quinn, many still think that he will be the teams starting QB sometime down the road in 2007.  For now, Frye is the man, and he thinks that the team made the right decision.  “I think I’m a lot more poised and my game management is better,” Frye said. “It comes from experience and being pushed by other guys. You make sacrifices and those sacrifices end up helping your game out.”
