In a move designed to improve their punting situation, the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday signed veteran punter Scott Player; terms of the signing were not available. To make room for Player, the Browns released P Paul Ernster. Player, a nine-year vet, has played 140 career games, all with the Arizona Cardinals. He carries into this season 714 punts for a 43.1 yard average, with 179 oif those punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
