D.A. Must Rebound vs Ravens

Anderson vs the Steelers

As the Browns get set to take on the Ravens Sunday, one factor that could come into play is the history between the Ravens and Browns starting QB Derek Anderson. Let’s not forget that DA was a Raven at one point, and the Browns basically grabbed him off the scrap heap when the team put him on waivers. GM Phil Savage was a big fan of Anderson, and decided to pick him up. Let’s not forget that the Browns themselves were not even all that sure Anderson had what it took, as they shopped him and Charlie Frye around during training camp and after that Steelers nightmare in week one. They got lucky in that the Hawks wanted Frye and not Anderson. If Anderson had been moved, Brady Quinn would likely be your starting QB today.

As for his mindset on Sunday, Anderson has to overcome the issues that killed him Sunday in Pittsburgh, and has to have that offense moving once again. He had major problems getting the ball underneath to guys like Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow. Anderson getting the ball down the field has never been the issue, it’s getting the ball to those guys 5 to 10 yards and letting them make a play that’s been the problem. Now against what appears to be a team in serious decline, the QB that has turned a lot of heads this season has to rebound. If not, the Browns will once again be in for a dogfight with the ratbirds.
