Savage Speaks on Crennel, Anderson, Lewis

Lewis to come back in 08?

General manager Phil Savage said on Wednesday that the team plan to offer head coach Romeo Crennel a contract extension.  Savage said Crennel’s extension could be addressed in the next couple of days.  After just tens wins in his first two seasons with the Browns, Crennel guided the club to tens wins this past year.  Crennel is currently under contract through 2010.  The Browns recently signed offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski to a two-year contract extension that him under contract through 2011.

As for QB Derek Anderson, the Browns have begun talks with him about a long-term contract.  Anderson took over as the starting quarterback in Week Two and threw 29 touchdown passes.  Anderson can become a restricted free agent next month.  Savage added that the Browns also plan on keeping quarterback Brady Quinn, who only played in the season finale.

The team is also hoping to begin serious contract talks with running back Jamal Lewis.   Savage said the Browns would like to bring Lewis back after playing under a one-year contract this season.  However, Lewis can shop his services anywhere as he can become an unrestricted free agent.  Lewis ran for 1,304 yards and nine touchdowns this past season for the Browns.
