Winslow Wants New Contract

Winslow

Add another to the list of Browns players looking for a new deal; during an interview with Sirius NFL Radio, tight end Kellen Winslow said that he wants to renegotiate his current contract. Winslow added, “When I got hurt [in 2005], the contract got renegotiated, so some things changed, but I think I’ve proven these past two years that I’m one of the elite tight ends. My value on the field, they put in an extra DB in the game, and that really changes the whole game. They have to guard me kind of like a wide receiver so, you know, yeah, gotta to get that new money.”

He was asked whether he will seek a new deal; Winslow replied, “Yeah. Hope so. Hope so.” Winslow said that he will let his new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, handle any and all negotiations; Winslow fired the Poston brothers last offseason and signed on with Rosenhaus. He is currently signed through 2010 and will earn $4 million in 2008, $.45 million in 2009 and $4.75 million in 2010. Browns general manager may at some point in time reconsider a makeover of Winslow’s current contract, but he, in the meantime, has some other contracts to deal with – getting both quarterback Derek Anderson and running back Jamal Lewis re-signed.

Winslow originally signed a 6-year deal worth up to $40 million in 2004, but threw away millions in incentives when he was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him with a shattered knee, among injuries that he suffered. In October 2005, Winslow signed a 1-year extension through 2010 and restructured his deal to wherehe could recoup the $3 million he had already lost in bonus money and the money he stood to lose in subsequent years. Regardless of all of this, Winslow will have to take a number and have a seat if he wants to be considered for a do-over of his current contract.

Ridiculous! The Browns stuck by him when it looked like his career was over. Winslow is just another reason to stick to college football. The pros care for nothing but money.
