Browns to Take a Long Look at Asante Samuel?

Samuel

Could the Browns be looking hard at adding one of the best free agents on the market next week? According to coach Romeo Crennel, the answer could be YES. Crennel spoke yesterday about Pats corner Asante Samuel at the combine in Indy, and said that there is “a possibility” that the Browns may look to go after him in free agency. Today’s Boston Herald is reporting that Samuel wants a 10-year deal worth about $100 million with $30 mil up front.

Samuel has said he’d like to stay with the Pats, but his rep – Alonzo Shavers, seems to say that money will in the end be the number one factor for his client. “Whoever throws the most money is always a good thing,” said Shavers. “That’s obviously one of the determining factors. But there will be more factored in. Asante has a list of things that are important to him, things he’d like.”

“He’s got a knack for intercepting balls. That’s the biggest thing he has going for him. That makes him one of the better players in the NFL,” Crennel said of Samuel. What a way to start off free agency that would be for the Browns, who for sure would love to have the services of one of the best corners in the league.
