The fact is that the fans in NE Ohio are the best fans in the world. For years the Browns fans held all the attendance records. The Indians had the same distinction. Back in the 90’s the Tribe even set the MLB record for consecutive sell outs. It’s a known fact that if you put a contender in Cleveland the fans of NE Ohio will fill the stands.
Going into the current season, the Tribe’s regular season record is 8469 – 8095 for a .511 winning %. Their playoff record is 44 – 41. They have won their division 10 times and the World Series twice. The Indians have been around since 1901. This is their 107th season.
The Browns on the other hand came into football in 1946 (1st 4 years AAFC). This is only their 62nd year. Their overall regular season record is 461 – 359 – 13 for a .531 winning %. Playoff record is 16 – 20. They have won their division 23 times and won the championship 8 times. It’s easy to understand why Cleveland and NE Ohio is a “football” town.
Other facts … In 2006 Bizjournal did a study and determined that the Browns fans are the most loyal in the NFL. Browns fans have filled 99.8 of the seats at Browns Stadium in the past 7 years, despite a record of 36 – 76. The Browns have the largest backers group of any major sports team. The largest is in Phoenix, Az, in the USA. The 2 largest in the rest of the world are Alon Shvut, Israel and Niagara, Canada.
Hats off to the Browns Backers of the world. Now let’s hope that the ownership of the Browns will see the same problems we all see and get the team straightened out and headed in the right direction.
