Pats McDaniels to Interview for the Browns Coaching Job

The good folks at the Brown and Orange report just passed on the following to us about yet another candidate for the Browns coaching spot:

The Orange and Brown Report’s John Taylor has learned this afternoon that the Cleveland Browns have asked for and received permission to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for their vacant head-coaching position. There is no word yet when the interview will take place.

The Browns pursuit of McDaniels is not a surprise, as he has often been mentioned alongside front office possibility Scott Pioli as a potential target for the Browns head coaching job. Cleveland also has interviews scheduled with ex-Jets head coach Eric Mangini, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Thos interviews are expected to take place between today and Saturday.

The Browns and Bill Cowher seem to be on the same page for being a great fit. They just happen to be a year apart in their time frame. The Browns should hire Cowher as a draft consultant this year, while hiring an interim Head Coach who will understand that this is Cowher’s team come next year. It will give the Browns the stability they need (15 years as head coach of the Steelers), and allow Cowher to wait his stated time frame. It will also allow Cowher to start building his team in his image

What stability?! Are you kidding, an interim till next year? Where is the stability in that? Two seasons and two systems to learn, a lame duck coach. That is worse than where we are now. Cowher is not coming to Cleveland, we need to accept that and move on.
