McKay Out of Running for G.M. Job

From: Pro Football

Last week, the Browns wanted to interview Rich McKay for the team’s still-vacant G.M. position. But McKay wanted to wait until the Falcons completed their playoff run.

The Falcons flew into an Arizona window on Saturday, but then McKay’s name never appeared again.

It has now. According to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, McKay has opted not to proceed.

Grossi also writes that Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis might be leaning toward staying put. On Thursday, a league source gauged Kokinis’ chances of taking the Cleveland job as 50-50.

Without Kokinis, the Browns’ options will be to promote director of player personnel T.J. McCreight, or to expand the search. Names that recently have emerged include former Broncos G.M. (and former PFT contributor) Ted Sundquist, and current Colts exec Chris Polian.

It just gets worse and worse! Great move hiring a coach before a GM. Now nobody wants the job, kind of makes you wonder about Mangini if this many candidates are pulling out of the Browns GM search.

I don’t understand the rush to get Mangini, as far as I know NO other team was interested in him. Lerner could have (should have) hired a GM and then given him his thoughts on Mangini. Now we are stuck with him and it seems without a GM, at least a good or promising one.

Can’t wait for next season and further abuse for being a Browns fan. Thanks for the dedication to putting on a winner Randy!
