Browns Canning Some Scouts?
Posted by Matt Loede on February 3rd, 2009 in News
Rumor has it today from ProFootballTalk.com that the Browns are going to be getting rid of some scouts. The report from the site is below:
We’re catching wind of rumors that the Cleveland Browns are in the process of letting some of the team’s scouts go.
The move isn’t surprising, given that the Browns have hired a new head coach and new General Manager in the past month.
But there was a sense during the courtship of Scott Pioli that some of the folks who had arrived during the Phil Savage era preferred an Eric Mangini-George Kokinis configuration, in the hopes of maintaining employment.
Apparently, for some of the scouts, the difference didn’t matter.

Regardless of what the scouts were thinking, the team has not been scouting well. A lot of draft picks over the past four years have not really worked out. Be that Savage or the scouts, it looks like somebody must think it was both. Makes sense to me. An internal shake-up may be what we need. It’s never good when somebody loses their job in this economy, but it is a business.
