Anderson Sticking Around? Browns Have an Interest in RB Ward

There has been plenty of talk about the Browns moving QB Derek Anderson, but on Friday new General manager George Kokinis said that the team isn’t all that anxious to move the QB, and that the team is willing to let Anderson battle Brady Quinn for the starting quarterback job.

Kokinis spoke in Indianapolis as he was at the annual NFL scouting combine. There’s been chatter that the team was going to move D.A. as he has a $5 mil roster bonus due in March, and it looks as if the team is going to for sure give the starting QB job to Quinn. Now that does not seem to be the case.

Another Browns rumor picking up steam is that the team may be interested in Giants soon to be free agent RB Derrick Ward. He is set to be free as of next Friday, and the Broncos are another team that has an interest in making a push for Ward.

Ward rushed for 1,025 yards for the Giants last season. He will be 29 in August.

I like DA. Keep him around, see what the pro-bowl quarterback can do after a sophmore slump. I don’t know why they bailed on him so fast anyway. I think instead of overpaying for Ward, look in the draft.

I disagree. I would have pursued trade talks with the Bucs. Anderson might have attracted a second round draft pick. Then I would have picked up a veteran QB to back up Quinn. Derek has a rocket arm but nothing else. Quinn should be the starter.

I agree about Ward. We already have a 29 year old power back who does quite well. If we feel we need a back get one in the draft, there are a tone of them. Should check with Carolina and see if a trade for DA and Braylon for Julius Peppers? Just a thought.

Trade D.A to tampa for a 2nd and 6th, then trade K2 for 2nd and 3rd or 2nd and a player. Get draft picks so we can get younger and more athletic on the defensive side of the ball. Draft A. Curry out of Wake and sign Bart Scott or Terrelle Suggs. And we still have Braylon Quinn Lewis Cribbs Jurvecuis is coming back.

Keep DA around? Sophmore slump? DA didn’t do alot his freshman year. He was even worse in his sophmore year. DA did nothing but get lucky his first year. The Browns offensive line was awesome in 07. DA was only sacked 14 times. That lead the NFL for the least times sacked by a starter and he still couldn’t do anything but throw bombs. Innacurately, might I add. As for his high TD production in 07, I say, “every squirrel finds a buried nut once in awhile”. Here are a few comparison of stats from 2007 and 08.
These stats are just for starters. In 2007 DA had a QB rating of 82.5 which ranked 21st, completion % was 56.5 which was 31st (next to worst), 9th in yards, 5th in TD’s, and 1st in fewest sacks. How can any QB be that protected and still only complete 56% of your passes and throw 19 ints?
In 2008 DA had a QB rating of 66.5 which was very last in the NFL, completion % was 50.2 which was also very last in the NFL, 31st in yards, 30th in TD’s, and 5th in fewest sacked.
I don’t understand how a QB, with all that time can throw the ball so miserably. Did he take us to the playoffs? NO!! What did he do? Throw alot of bombs? If you have good receivers who can catch, they’re going to catch some of them. What QB’s in the NFL can not hit a dump off to their backs or the short slants across the middle? Is there anyone worse than DA? I can’t think of them if there is. DA is NOT the man. Case closed.

In his third season, I bet he can hit the guys over the middle. I don’t see what his stats have to do with it, the guy made the Pro Bowl in ’07. No, we didn’t make the playoffs, but when was the last time we won 10 games. Was the qb Holcomb or Quinn? I don’t think they won that many then. The point is, the o-line did not protect the quarterback this year. I don’t care what the rank was, I watched every snap this season and there was little time to throw the ball. If anybody, not just Braylon, could catch the ball, everybody’s numbers would be up. I still don’t think we would have made the playoffs this year. If DA isn’t the man then, who is?
