Quinn and Rogers for Cutler? Would you Do It?

The rumor of the day surrounding the Browns and their supposed interest in Broncos QB Jay Cutler involves the team moving QB Brady Quinn and upset DT Shaun Rogers to Denver for the services of Cutler. The Broncos QB is upset after it was learned on Saturday by his people that he was being thrown into a deal that would have had him going to Tampa Bay, Matt Cassel going to the Broncos, and the Pats getting some picks.

After that deal ended up being Cassel to the Chiefs, Cutler found himself in a tough spot. That is, being on a team that really at the end of the day wouldn’t mind it if he’s not there anymore. That’s where the rumors start, and that is where the Browns could come in.

There has been reports that the new regime of Eric Mangini and Co. are not sold on Quinn, so moving him wouldn’t be as a shock as it once might have been. It would seem that with the issues with Rogers, a move putting together Rogers and Quinn for the unhappy Cutler would make sense for both sides.

It’s an interesting deal to say the least, and one that could land the Browns their best QB – BY FAR, since their return in 1999. At the same time, they would be getting rid of Rogers, a player that was their best defensive player in 2008.

So what is a team to do? If Cutler is on the table, I would pull the trigger. It’s not known if any picks are on the table by either team, but one would think that the Broncos wouldn’t mind grabbing a pick or two as well as Quinn and Rogers.

It would seem that this deal is a no-brainer. Now the only thing is does another team step up and trump the deal, and if so, do the Browns panic and try to trump it back. If they don’t they could land a Pro Bowl QB by the time the draft rolls around.

NO WAY! I don’t think you trade a pro-bowler and a first rounder for a quarterback with some uncertainties. Cutler is good, but that kind of trade would be ridiculous. Now if they were willing to give us their first rounder and Cutler, I would say that is more feasible.

Our source tells us the players involved are: Brady Quinn and Shaun Rogers for Jay Cutler and the Broncos 3rd round draft pick.

I thought, absolutely no way when I first heard this, but, it makes sense on some level. The Broncos want to put a 3-4 defense in place in 2009, but have a huge hole in the middle of that scheme. There are no real NTs available in free agency, and the top name in the draft (BJ Raji) will most likely be gone at pick #12. Shaun Rogers has asked for his release or trade, wanting nothing to do with the Browns. Perfect match there, at least for the next couple years. Given that McDaniels and Xanders have gone after veteran defensive talent thus far (Dawkins,Goodman, etc ) it makes sense on that level as well.

Now, Brady Quinn? We have heard that Mangini is not thrilled with the prospect of using Quinn. We have also heard that he covets a gun slinging, cannon armed QB to run his offense (a younger Favre), who wouldn’t really?

I say no. Our best defensive player and a guy who can legitimately fight for the starting QB job is too rich for Cutler. Cutler is above average with good stats last season on QB rating, yards passed and touchdowns, however, he is not proven under pressure; not experienced in big games; and obviously very easily offended. I view it as a mistake.

Your kidding me, right?! Rogers AND Quinn for Cutler, just what we need one whiner for another! A Pro Bowl Defensive NT (with NOBODY to replace that hole if traded)and a #1 Draft pick, no way! What is the upside?

If Denver is going to trade Cutler they better come with more than that, other teams should have Denver over the barrel, they are the ones with a dirgruntled QB who wants out so there should be a draft pick or two in the deal as well for the Browns to pull the trigger on this trade.

Hopefully Cleveland doesn’t go into this drooling letting Denver off the hook for a better trade for us, lets be the ones making the other poor slob pay!

I would do something along the lines of Brady Quinn and our 1st for Jay Cutler and their 1st

  6. Eric says:

Nobody has denver over a barrell because cutler is under contract for 3 more years at a very friendly #. Also considering more than half the league would be interested in cutler if in fact the broncos put him on the block, the laws of supply and demand dictate the broncos could get whatever they wanted and thus hold all the cards
