Browns w/ Interest in USC QB Mark Sanchez?

From: NFL.com

The Browns are headed for a quarterback competition with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson. How about adding one more quarterback to the mix?

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Browns are “smitten” by QB Mark Sanchez and that it wouldn’t surprise some if the team took the former USC signal-caller with the fifth overall pick in this month’s draft. Of all the draft-day surprises over the years, the Browns picking Sanchez certainly would rank near the top.

According to The Plain Dealer, Browns executives aren’t particularly impressed with Quinn or Anderson. But making a move for a quarterback, with so many other needs, would be quite a leap for Cleveland, especially since Quinn, a 2007 first-round draft pick, hasn’t really been given a chance to prove himself on the field.

This would be pure lunacy. I think it is likely an attempt by the front office of the Browns to not commit publicly to picking a Defensive player in the first round in an effort to accomplish two things: keep the trade of that fifth overall pick a viable option, and keep Teams selecting in the top 10 thinking that Curry or Orakpo might be available after the #5 pick.

This is a little puzzling, not only because he’s seen as one of the bigger gambles of the first round, but because they have so many more pressing needs they can address with that pick. I hope they’re just playing the field to hold the value of that pick, should they trade it. Why do they seem to intent on not giving Quinn a reasonable shot?

if the browns trade around to end up getting mark sanchez i will be verry upset. there is no reason why they should get another quaterback. We have brady quinn and Anderson who i believe is the better of the two. If braylon caught some passes last year… Anderson would probably have his job. Anderson didnt have a good supporting crew around him to help him out when your going up agianst the ravens and steelers defense. I would much rather the browns use ther picks on deffense. We need a pass rush and a corner badly. Even if we get a good offense from this draft we still will not be able to stop anybody and i don’t know about you but when the browns need a stop badly htey never get it and it kills when they don’t over and over agaqin
