Cribbs Cries Foul Over New Deal Promised – Says He Won’t Be at Minicamp

Here we go again.

A Browns player is unhappy with his deal, and claims that he’s being lied to by the higher ups in the club saying he was promised that a new deal would be coming his way. That player – kicker returner and wide receiver Joshua Cribbs. The story goes is that Cribbs is getting set to skip a voluntary minicamp because he believes that the team has not honored a promise to adjust his contract.

This afternoon after hearing that, the Browns jumped on the offensive, saying that no one promised Cribbs that a new deal would be coming his way. The team released a statement reading: “Contrary to published reports this morning, no one from the current Browns organization, including Owner Randy Lerner, has ever made any promises to Josh Cribbs with regard to his contract status.”

Now it comes down to who is telling the truth, and is there a chance that Cribbs could get a new deal? He’s probably the most exciting player on the club, and has already been a Pro Bowl player in his short career coming out of Kent State.

If Cribbs decides to start his relationship with new coach Eric Mangini by not being there when he should, it’s not going to endure himself to the new powers that be. On the other hand, the Browns need Cribbs. What gives? Whatever the case, it’s just another black eye for a team that needs some good things to start happening on and off the field.

What gives? Cribbs. I know it is easy to bash the Browns, but it is highly unusual for the Team to deliver a statement like it did here, and even more unusual to mention Lerner specifically. My guess is that Lerner is royally (no pun intended) pissed off about Cribbs’ whining. He is a great player, and we need his versatility, but not on hands and knees.

This stinks to high heaven of lawyers/agents trying to pull a fast one. First, IF the discussion took place it was between the agent and the old GM; sounds like maybe the agent is trying to start off with putting general sentiment on his side from the fans, but who knows what was said if anything.
Second, a child should know that if something was said to or by the old GM, at the very least I’d want to talk it over with the new guys and see where their thinking is. Lawyers and politicians. Who was it that said, first, kill all the lawyers?
Josh, we love you and need you. don’t let this start off the wrong way. If you’re agent can’t handle negotiations the right way, get a new agent.

this is out of character for Cribbs………i would expect this frm Braylon or K2 but not Cribbs. Mary Kay Cabot broke this news and cited a “source” close to cribbs and did not say she heard it directly from him so once again Matt your just as bad as the Plain Dealer……fishing for a story.

I also found it out of character for the Browns to put that msg up on their website, traditionally the Browns keep their “dirt” off their website and are close liped about this stuff. My best guess (not somehting i heard from a mysterious source like the Plain dealer lies about) is that Lerner read this sotry with his morning coffee, got pissed b/c he knew he didn’t make any promise to Cribbs and he called down the chain of command and said put up that press release. Mangini would just no aknowlege this he would not put up a release so thats why I suspect the press release came directly from the owner due to the personal nature of the acusation.

Cribbs does deserve more than 600+K this season in pay………..however there is no excuse for holding out if you care about ur team and Cribbs has always cared about the team so I am suspicious of the validty of this story. Just like i was with the inimate Braylon and Quinn trades reported on this and the PD’s website………

I agree Logan – that statement from the Team came directly from Lerner. The Dolph is growing some you know what.

Now Cribbs’ agent says he has telephone records to prove that Lerner promised a new contract. I may not the sharpest tool in the shed, but since when did phone records reveal what was said? Gimme a break. HEY JOSH – GET A NEW AGENT. THIS GUY FAILED THE EXAM IN D.C.

  5. Logan says:

yea i read that tid bit after i made my comment, Lerner may have called him but what does that prove? This agent is a moron and he is going to take Joshua down with him…..come Cribbs…….one time baby!!!! Cribbs was not there today so that says something as far as the validty of this story however, the trade request won’t happen and if he wants he can sit his ass in his house for a year……..holdout all u want josh……collect your 600K thats chump change and then get traded and the team that takes to, doesn’t change ur contract either. If you would have just showed up you would have eventually got the money you deserve……..but oyu had to get greedy or let this agent get into your heart…….$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I have said it before and I will say it again this game thats in our hearts as fans and drives us to stick with them throughtout shitty seasons is not about heart its about $$$$$$$$$…….By the way santa clause doesnt exist either…..and lebron will be leaving for more $$$$
