WR Edwards Wants to Stay a Brown; Rebound from a Tough 2009

Braylon Edwards is still a member of the Browns, and he says he wants to keep it that way. The wide out, who was a player that almost all felt would be moved around the draft, is still in Brown and Orange, and says that he wants to get back to the form of two seasons ago.

He spoke the final days of this past weeks Browns mini-camp, telling the media that he tried not to get too overzelous about the rumors of his supposed departure in a deal to the New York Giants. “I didn’t get excited [about the rumors],” he said. “One, they were rumors and there was nothing to hold on to. And two, I felt like if I would have left Cleveland for any reason, I would have left with a bad taste in my mouth.

“I wanted to get back to playing good football, definitely here. It’s a business and who knows what’s going to happen next year. But for me, it was just about getting back to what I know I can do and being the player the Browns drafted in ’05 and that the fans saw in ’07.”

The Browns need Edwards, and now that he knows that he’s not going anywhere, he really needs them as well. If he can get back to the form of two seasons ago, it gives the Browns that number one wide out threat that the team really needs.

He didn’t seem in the mood to talk about a contract extension that would keep in him Cleveland long-term. Of course with an upcapped year possibly coming, Edwards will want to try to have a big 2009, then try to cash in, with the Browns or elsewhere in 2010.

“Right now I just want to play,” he said. “I’m not trying to get into contracts or things like that. I believe that focusing on football is what we all need as a Browns organization and we’ll get back to the level we’ve been.”

I’m almost afraid to say something positive here for fear of the minute i do he’ll do something crazy or some wierd trade will happen, but could it be Mr. Edwards is maturing into someone who thinks with his mind and not with his wallet, and is taking responsibility??? This could work out great.

Butch – I agree that Braylon should get some credit here. He has weathered a lot of trade rumours and extensive public and media bashing, yet he does not show any sourness publicly towards the Browns. And he is big enough to admit that last year was a disaster. Good for Braylon.

How badly does he want to stay a Brown? IF he gets back to form is he going to want to stay or go elsewhere? I get the feeling he is just saying what teams want to hear from him so he can go elsewhere next year. He stii does not do his charity work in Cleveland anymore and remember “we fans” hate him because he went to Mich.

That is all irrelivant. If we were to hear that attitude from him we’d be all over him. He’s done the right thing here and started off on the right foot. It’s our season coming up, and he senses his also. Who cares what he does if he gets traded or goes elsewhere. It’s not like it coould happen without getting conpensated. It’s a win-win situation; if he does good and wants out, he’s worth more. If everyone makes up and makes nice-nice, it’s all good. Positive people. Positive. That’s why we cut K2 loose, he brought negative to the equation.
