Cribbs Says He’s Coming to Mini-Camp

It appears that the Browns are finally making progress with kick returner/wide receiver Josh Cribbs. The Plain Dealer is reporting that Cribbs is going to report to the teams mini-camp after he skipped the first week. Here is the report:

Browns receiver Josh Cribbs will report to voluntary minicamp today after skipping the first camp last week, his agent, J.R. Rickert, said in a text Monday night. Cribbs missed all three voluntary practices last week because he was waiting for the Browns to engage in “meaningful dialogue” regarding a new contract.

“Josh Cribbs will report to practice on Tuesday,” Rickert said in the text. “He is making this good-faith effort to show everyone just how important this is to him. We will continue to communicate with the Browns on a regular basis and we are optimistic that there will be a fair solution.” Cribbs, who has four years remaining on a six-year, $6.77 million contract, is looking for a deal similar to the four-year, $40 million contract receiver Devin Hester signed with the Chicago Bears last off-season.

Cribbs wants a new deal, but it still seems somewhat unlikely that the new Browns regime is going to sack up and give it to him. It’s more likely that he’ll have to play under his current deal, and if he has a strong 2009, he can then be a little more aggressive in asking for that Hester type of contract.

Exactly what the …. has he done that is worth more than $6.77 million? This is what I mean when I say people want to just throw money at the problems. That is to me one of the most stupid statements made lately.
