Browns wrap up Mini Camp, with Cribbs in the Brown and Orange

Josh Cribbs is a treat to watch every Sunday wearing the Brown and Orange. The Browns special teamer this year is going to have a bigger role on the team playing on both sides of the ball in the fall.

Although the Kent State product wants a new contract he is here working out with his teammates getting ready for this 2009 season. Cribbs since day one has talked about how much he loves playing for this team and fans.

Although he probably isn’t getting paid in football terms that much money Cribbs has showed up to camp for this team, city, fans, and himself. Instead of waiting to July win Training Camp begins and holding out Cribbs has sat down talked to Mangini and is here playing football in Berea. Maybe the attitude he has will catch on to the other players on this team. Here is what Mangini and Cribbs had to say….

“This is really his second day working with the group so we will stay on offense and then we will figure out defensively when he can get some reps, how we want to sort that out,” Mangini said. “I am looking at it more as kind of (a chance to) carve out a role there, get a niche there and move to the next step and figure it out as we go.

“I envision that role to be whatever he decides it should be. Just like all of these players, you don’t go in saying, ‘He is just going to be in this group of plays.’ I never look at it with limits or walls. I look at it more as potential and the player defines how potentially big the role is.”

“I’m back in practice, getting the hang of everything,” he said. “They’re working me in there. I feel good. I’m just happy to be out on the field with the guys.

“I’m concentrating on football.”

Cribbs is a great guy, I am glad he showed up, I though that comment he released was BS but him showing up to camp redeems himself in my mind. Lets just hope he doesn’t holdout in camp in july b/c I do not ink the Browns are going to give him shit……he is a special teams player, he is not one of those positions that mangini feels is important like OL….

I agree. Showing up to camp and delivering a positive attitude and public comments helps me get over the pathetic statement that was released. But he basically had to do this because of the Team’s tough approach and Mangini’s comments that the playbook was being worked on, hinting that Josh would lose out on a bigger role this season if he did not show up.

It’s amazing how much you can like a guy, but when he’s influenced by some money hungry jerk who gives him bad info in his ‘best interest’ can turn you against him. I’m really glad his true nature won out, at least it appears so. His advancement will come AFTER his accomplishments; rightfully so. This just feels right.

Hey Logan, I agree, but maybe, just maybe Mangini learned something from his time with the Jets and will realize how importrant Josh is, even though he is a Special Teamer. Typically as Josh goes so do the Browns.

Even though I agree that the Browns probably won’t give him more, I don’t agree with that decision. This kid has consistently proven that he bleeds “brown” and shits “Orange” and should, IMHO be given the money that he requests. There are a number of wins that this team has had that can be directly hung on his locker peg. Keep him, give him the money and I guarantee it that you’ll not ever regret it!
