Off the field, his efforts to help youth through agencies like the AmerIcan Foundation have not gone on deaf ears. He is a charitable man. He has done a lot to recognize former teammates who he felt were not getting the recognition they deserve. For example, Gene Hickerson's long overdue induction into Canton was encouraged by Brown for years. I think that Jim is frustrated with what he perceives to be a total lack of professionalism and social responsibility in today's world of sports. I don't blame him. What I do think, however, is that he should refrain from speculative comments like those he said about Stallworth and the marijuana. He broke many social barriars. These acheveiments are not well known sadly. He was one of the 1st African American actors that was in a bi-racial love scene and also acted as a main character (and not the toekn black guy) in many movies. During the 1990s he helped stop the violence that was not reported widely by the media in LA. The violence was causing an average of 5 murders a night in LA (More than we lose in one night in Iraq currently). He mentors not just young athelets but children as well. he may be iutspoken but this man doesn't get the respect he deserves for his accomplishments off the field and I think he is a bit frusrated at many non-white and white athelets not giving back to the communities that give so much to them. Some can call it jealousey b/c he never got a million dollar contract but I think he is old school and expects these guys to remeber where they came from instead of buying 24s for their H2 and drinking crystal in the VIP and then accidentally shooting themselves. I agree with Jim Brown these guys need to stand up for social progress b/c the war on racism and economic discrimination still exist.
