Northcutt Looking for a New Home – Why Not the Browns?

Dennis Northcutt spent seven seasons with the Browns before inking with the Jaguars before the 2007 season, and now, he could end up as a Brown again. Northcutt has been told by the Jaguars that he can seek a trade, and you can bet that if no team ends up making a deal for him, Northcutt will probably get released.
Playing for the Browns from 2000 to 2006, Northcutt had some memorable, and not-so-memorable moments. One play that he is remembered for is a touchdown in the final seconds against the Titans in a huge comeback win in the 2002 season. That was his best season as a Brown, catching five TD’s and catching 38 passes. It was one dropped pass vs the Steelers in the AFC Wild Card game that was one of those tough moments to watch as a Browns fan.
Northcutt can be an asset to the Browns, he’s a veteran WR and a guy that can not only make some plays (he had 44 catches last year in 14 games for 545 yards and two TD’s), and can show some of the younger players what to do. It probably wouldn’t cost much, so go out there and see what the Jags want for the Browns first round pick back in 2000.

It does not hurt to read the price tag, but I would not buy this unless it’s on sale. I have nothing against Northcutt per se, but with the two new draftees and the other off-season moves plus the retention of Edwards, I’m not sure that we need much if any more depth at the receiver position. A blockbuster star or a certain starter is one thing – you always make room for that; but Northcutt may be too rich for what he will provide us.

The one thing I see that is of some value is he knows the meaning of the rivalry here and some of the new guys can use some help underdstanding that every time a new regime comes in; other than that he’d be wanting to make up for the dropped pass against Pit, and that would be good. Otherwise i totally agree, he’s a fire sale cuz we’re looking toward the future now at that position.
