Posted in The Browns today signed three of their eight selections from the 2009 NFL Draft, the team announced. The trio consists of cornerbacks Don Carey (6a), Coye Francies (6b) and running back James Davis (6c). Also on Wednesday, the team waived linebacker Jonathan Foster, defensive back Nate Ness and running back Marcus Thomas.
Carey was a four-year letterman at Norfolk State (2005-08) who was a second-team All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference selection each of his final two years. He recorded a career-high five interceptions as a senior, one of which he returned for a touchdown. He also scored a touchdown via a fumble return last year. Carey prepped at Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Va.
Francies played his final collegiate season of 2008 at San Jose State when he collected 69 tackles and three interceptions. He also played at Oregon State in 2006. He attended Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
Davis was a four-year letterman at Clemson (2005-08) where he finished his career as the school’s second all-time leading rusher with 3,881 yards and 47 touchdowns on 753 attempts. He was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference choice as a sophomore and junior, when he ran for more than 1,000 yards both times, including a career-high 1,187 yards and 17 touchdowns as a sophomore. He attended Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Ga.

Of the three, I am most intrigued by Davis. We already have signs that Mangini will use Harrison more than Crennel did. And we should not forget that Vickers is a pretty decent full back. With Lewis and company and a more solidified offensive line, we could have a return this year to some old fashioned smash-mouth football. That would be just fine with me.
a consistant running game would be welcome in my books.and would do so much for the passing game AND defense.
