If you or I sign a 3 year contract at work, and we have an excellent year after the first year, we can't ask for a raise and if we don't get it we can sit out until we do. Thats crap. An oral agreement that they'll redo it somewhat early is way better, and would show trust on both sides; otherwise you are opening the flood gates for every swinging D that wants a new deal or plays well for a few games. Why should they believe he'll live up to a new contract if he won't honor this one? Are we going year to year? I'll be the doesn't want to hear that.
