Tucker Not Released – Placed on IR; Louis Leonard Traded to Panthers

There was a report yesterday on WKNR (ESPN 850) that the Browns had RELEASED guard Ryan Tucker. Well, today word came down that Tucker was not released, but instead placed on injured reserve.

“A little bit of housekeeping, we put Ryan Tucker on IR. Obviously, that’s always disappointing when that happens. Ryan is such a good guy,” Eric Mangini said. “He is such a fun guy to work with as a coach, because of his approach, his professionalism, all the things that you look for as part of a team, as a coaching staff. That’s the situation and that’s where we are there. We traded Louis Leonard to Carolina. I think that was a good opportunity for us, for Carolina and for the player.”

So take that for what it’s worth, but the report was not true, and for now, Tucker is still a member of the Browns, though he won’t take the field in 2009.

IF Tucker cannot return at all this season, my guess is that he retires a Brown and settles with the Team so that we don’t have to pay out his full contract.

Tucker, I think is injury prone. He came to the Browns in 2002 as a free agent. He started 14 games that year. 2003 and 2005 were the only 2 years he started all 16 games. 2004 he started 7 games and a knee injury finished him for the year. He only started 9 games in 2006, then put on the non football injury list which ended his season. A banned substance got him suspended for the 1st 4 games then he started 8 of the last 12. So he missed 8 games in 2007. And he only played in 1 game in 2008. He is already on IR this year. I think his tenure as a starting lineman for the Browns is about over.
