Cleveland Browns Jerseys

Week 3 vs the Ravens

I have a lot to say about how the Browns are playing and being coached, but I’m sure things will just keep repeating themselves. Let’s start with the head coach. He has a 23-25 regular season record coming into Cleveland. So that’s 23-27 now. He is going to turn his players against him with some of these stupid fines.

He brought in 22 new players this year. Most of the veterans he brought in were second stringers. I guess that means that a second stringer for any other team is a starter for Cleveland. He is definitely not a motivator. Mack is going to be a solid center, but trading down 3 spots to get him when we have bigger needs is not a smart move. His ego is going to kill the Browns. I remember knocking the choice of Mangini as head coach, the day they brought him in. As of this moment I give him an “F” as his grade.

Brady Quinn … I admit he’s still young and inexperienced, but I think he should be playing a lot better than he is. I still say Mangini is at fault here for not naming Quinn as the starter during training camp or even pre season. He has a 66.9 QB rating, he’s thrown 1 TD and 2 ints. He’s only averaging 5.5 yards per pass.

He does not like to throw down field as shown by his 3 completions over 20 yards. He needs to be more aware of where the defense is, when they are coming with the rush. As of now I give him a “D+”. He is right there with DA’s outstanding QB ratings.

Running back … Lewis is on course for an 800 yard season. I’d say he’s lost some, but the O line is not opening holes like they did in 07. They didn’t last year either. I have been praising Harrison since he got here but if he’s out with injuries, that does not help his case. Davis is going to be a spark plug too, if he stays injury free. Considering the latter two have both been injured already I’d have to grade the running back position as a “C-“.

Receiver … Edwards is holding onto the ball this year and playing tough. Furrey is Brian Brennan reborn. He catches everything within reach. Why do we not throw him the ball more? Massaquoi and Robiskie have caught 1 pass between the 2 of them. What’s going on there? Cribbs is tied for the lead in catches with 7, but he is only averaging 4.6 yards per catch? Royal and Heiden seem to be holding down the TE spots fairly well. I give the tight ends a “B-” and the wide outs a “B”.

Offensive line … I would have to split this into 2 parts. The left side and the right side. Thomas and Steinbach seem to be their normal solid linemen. Mack just needs some experience. He’s a rookie. The right side is another story. OMG, St Claire is being destroyed. Defensive linemen are walking right over him. I’d have to grade the left side with a “B” and the right side with an “F”.

Defensive line … they have given up an average of 5.6 yards per carry. Not good !! 1 sack in 2 games is not too good and they could be putting alot more pressure on the opposing QB. You don’t need a sack every play to disrupt the QB’s passing. Grade is “C-“.

Linebackers … they only have 1 sack also. Giving up too many yards on the ground. The opponents are averaging 174 yards passing per game passing. That’s not as bad as 202.5 rushing. We need to stop the run. Grade is “D”

Defensive backfield … they’re obviously doing something right. I have seen them get burned a few times, a few stupid penalties and the opponents don’t need to throw if they continue to run over us. But over all, I think 174 yards a game is respectable. Plus, they have 2 sacks. Grade is “B+”.

Special teams … punting is real good, FG’s and EP’s have been excellent. Dawson has not missed either. Cribbs has a TD on a punt return but has really been lacking on the KO returns. Grade is “B”.

Assistant coaches …. Daboll should be given his walking papers NOW!!! Ryan is doing ok but we haven’t seen what we were promised yet. OMG, how in the world did Daboll get this job? Was he brought in by Mangini? I’ll tell you that I think the coaching staff is destroying anything we had working for us this year. Grade is “D”.

We have a few bright spots, but overall the team has been miserable and I really have to stretch to see the Browns finishing anywhere but the basement. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
