Better Showing, Same Results – Browns Fall 23-20 in OT

Bengals Browns Football
The Browns gave a better showing of themselves today, but the results were the same. Jerome Harrison had over 100 yards rushing for the 1st time in his career. Mohammad Massaquoi had close to 150 yards receiving, Cribbs had over 200 return yards, Rogers blocked a FG attempt and an extra point, Pool has been everywhere on the field, breaking up passes and DA was only sacked twice but the one time, he ran right into the defensive lineman. Joe Thomas even threw up his arms in disgust after the play.

DA continued his indecisiveness on several plays. We had 3 dropped passes. One by Edwards. Missed passes by DA. The Browns let Cincinnati continue their last minute comebacks as they moved into a tie for the division lead with Baltimore.

The one thing I do like about DA is that he is not afraid to air the ball out. BQ seems to settle for a sideline to sideline game. You have to move the ball down field. Carson barely completed 50% of his passes, but then so did DA. They both threw 1 interception. Carson threw 2 TD’s, 2 DA’s 1.

The Browns stopped Benson in the 1st half but couldn’t hold him in the 2nd half. If and when we held Benson, Scott would run over us. We still basically have no pass rush. The Bengals completed 4 passes over 20 yards, 4 rushes over 10 yards.

Like I and 6 or 7 others who responded to my post at the end of last weeks game, will not get excited when the Browns score. It’s just a mirage. The Browns are done and can not compete in professional football. I don’t understand how Golic and Langhorn can get excited about several good plays for the Browns. They still lost the game. Isn’t that the bottom line?

Don’t you have to win to succeed in the NFL? I hear, “well they’re looking better”. So what? They still lost! They will continue to lose too. The only way the organization will understand how disappointed the Browns fans really are is to stop going to the games and stop buying memorabilia.

  1. Denolakes says:

This team has to be looking out for the next season already. They are obviously going to draft very high and early in the middle rounds. I doubt we will see trading down. This team needs playmakers on both sides of the ball. Typically, impact players come early on in any draft. So, what do you do with this season? It is already a lost cause if the playoffs were the goal — which they never were. Some decisions have been made self-evident by play (or lack thereof) on the field. Massaquoi obviously has to play. So does Harrison. McDonald and Quinn have already played themselves out of any starting role. Safety play has also been weak, but with at least moments of decent plays. St. Clair has to be replaced with a much stronger RT. Rogers stays on the DL — but Atyhba has to play. This year identify and develop the core around which the missing pieces have to be placed. Make that group believe in what you are trying to do. If that group can see the progress — and it shows up on the field and nowhere else that matters for these decisions — then you can move forward. Build on that with a good draft and limited — but greater impact — free agency players.

  2. This was the first game I actually enjoyed watching this season. At least we had hope, they played well for the most part and were in it right into overtime! Yes, it’s sad they didn’t get more TD instead of a field goal and win it in 4 quarters, but they played tough to the end! They came up with several big plays and the defense was the best they’ve been so far this season.

I think they will beat Buffalo this week.
