The Browns today signed wide receiver Darnell Jenkins to the practice squad, the club announced. In addition, the team released running back Cedric Peerman from the practice squad.
Originally signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2008, Jenkins spent the first 15 weeks of the regular season on the team’s practice squad and signed to the active roster in Week 16. He saw action against Oakland on December 21, and was inactive against Chicago on December 28. Jenkins was waived by Houston on September 5, 2009 and signed to the Texans’ practice squad on September 6. He was released from Houston’s practice squad on October 22, 2009.
A four-year letterman (2004-07) at the University of Miami, Jenkins registered 90 receptions for 1,274 yards and five touchdowns during his collegiate career. As a senior, he recorded a career-high 31 receptions for 619 yards and two touchdowns. A native of Miami, Fla., the 5-10, 191-pounder attended Central High School in Miami.
