More on the Firing of Kokinis

The reports appear true about the firing of GM George Kokinis, who was let go today by the club. Here’s a few highlights from the web about the firing:

Plain Dealer:

Browns general manager George Kokinis was escorted out of the Browns facility in Berea by security, two league sources told the Plain Dealer, and is believed to have been fired. The Browns did not immediately return calls or emails, including an email to owner Randy Lerner. Kokinis was handpicked by Browns coach Eric Mangini to be his general manger but was barely heard from after his hiring in January, both began their careers in Cleveland as underlings to Bill Belichick in the early 1990s.

Fox Sports:

Several sources told FOXSports.com that general manager George Kokinis was escorted from the building at some point Monday. Two other sources believe that Kokinis has been fired, though another source inside the building maintains he has not heard that.

I’m still trying to get to the bottom of what, if anything, has happened one day after owner Randy Lerner said he was “sick” of losing, but also said he would not fire head coach Eric Mangini this week, the team’s bye week.

Kokinis was hired as GM in January of this year after serving as director of pro personnel for the Ravens for the last six years.

Warren Tribune Chronicle:

In what could be the first sign of a major shakeup, the Browns fired general manager George Kokinis Monday afternoon.

The story was first reported by the “Orange & Brown Report” internet site. It was then picked up by other media outlets.

Neal Gulkis, director of public relations, returned a call at 8:40 p.m. He said he hadn’t been told that Kokinis had been let go.

Kokinis was seen being escorted out of the building by two members of the front office, including Lewis Merletti, senior vice-president.
