The Cleveland Browns today elevated linebacker Marcus Benard to the active 53-man roster from the practice squad, the team announced. In addition, the club signed tight end Evan Moore and wide receiver Chris Williams to the practice squad, and released tight end Colin Cloherty from the practice squad.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Browns on May 1, 2009, Benard was waived on September 6 and signed to the team’s practice squad on September 9. A two-year letterman at Jackson State University (2007-08), the Adrian, Michigan native earned All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors as a senior after recording 80 tackles, 16 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss.

Moore, who was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints on May 5, 2008, was waived by the Saints on May 13 and then signed by the Green Bay Packers on May 22. He spent the entire 2008 season on injured reserve and was waived by the Packers on September 5, 2009. A four-year letterman at Stanford University (2003-04, 2006-07), Moore appeared in 38 contests and finished his collegiate career with 103 receptions for 1,555 yards and 12 touchdowns. Born on January 3, 1985, the 6-6, 247-pound Moore is a native of Brea, Calif.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins on April 30, 2009, Williams was waived by the Dolphins on August 23, 2009. A three-year starter at New Mexico State University (2006-08), Williams finished his career as the Aggies’ all-time leader in receiving yards (3,555) and touchdown receptions (32). Born on September 16, 1987, the 5-8, 175-pounder is a native of Fort Worth, Texas.
