Browns Officially Place Both RB Lewis and Safety Pool on IR

The Cleveland Browns today placed running back Jamal Lewis (post concussion symptoms) and defensive back Brodney Pool (concussion) on injured reserve, the team announced. In addition the club was awarded defensive back Ramzee Robinson off waivers from Philadelphia.

“After consulting with our medical team, we felt that this was in the best interests of both Jamal and Brodney at this time,” said Browns Head Coach Eric Mangini. “As I’ve said before, organizationally, players’ health and safety are paramount in any decision we make with regards to putting them back on the field.

“Jamal has been an integral part of this team and he has exhibited a great work ethic. He worked hard, studied hard and set a good example for the younger running backs.

“I was encouraged with Brodney’s progress each week and appreciated his approach and attitude towards this season. Through 11 games he had already reached his career bests for interceptions and passes defensed.

“I’m disappointed that Jamal and Brodney are not going to be able to finish out the season, and I thank them both for their contributions this year.”

Lewis appeared in nine games with eight starts this year, rushing for a team-high 500 yards on 143 attempts and eight receptions for 88 yards.

Pool saw action in 11 contests, with 10 starts, recording a team-high and career-best four interceptions, 48 tackles, 10 passes defensed and one sack.

Originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round (255th overall) of the 2007 draft, Robinson has seen action in 22 games with Detroit and Philadelphia, totaling 11 tackles, one pass defensed, one fumble recovery and 28 special teams tackles. He was waived by the Lions following training camp this season and was signed by Philadelphia on November 11. He appeared in three games with the Eagles and recorded three special teams tackles. He was waived by Philadelphia on December 1.

A four-year letterman at Alabama (2003-06), Robinson started all 12 games his senior season, totaling 40 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble. The 5-10, 190-pounder was born on February 2, 1984 and is a native of Huntsville, Ala., where he attended Butler High School.
