Cleveland Browns Jerseys

Westbrook latest to be released….

Brian Westbrook is the latest player to be released, after a great career with the Eagles. Westbrook has rushed for 5,995 yards and 37 career TDs. Could the Browns be interested in Westbrook? Would Westbrook want to come to Cleveland? With Heckerts background with the Eagles and Holmgren relationship with Andy Reid it could be a great fit for the Browns to land him. I know Westbrook has had an issue with concussions, but if he can stay healthy and the Browns need for a Veteran back, Westbrook could help this offense. Would the additions of Mcnabb and Westbrook, and also are Draft picks, that we have coming in this years draft, would that be enough to bring the Browns back to Playoff contention? The Browns also need to add more to the offense with a dire need at the  Wide Receiver position. I know this is far fetched but the Browns have said they will spend money wisely in this years Free Agency period, and they are in need of weapons on offense.

  1. Cobra says:

Go pick up Westbrook and Tomlinson. That kind of running threat, not to mention Harrison in the backfield and Vickers opening holes, will give defenses fits and may allow whomever our QB ends up being a little extra time to actually make plays.

  2. ButchGavlen says:

can you say over the hill….
    might as well keep Jamal.

  3. I would pass on Westbrook. How many times have Cleveland sports teams gone out and got that veteran that didn’t do squat for us. I say over the hill, injury prone and high priced. Let Harrison and Vickers go at it. See what we have with James Davis also, he showed some promise last year in camp. I think we really need to focus on a big timer though in the draft this year or next.

  4. Denolakes says:

Calvin Hill is the last acquired veteran that had any semblance of productive tenure in Cleveland. My guess is they will draft — or maybe trade — to fill this position need, if at all.

Sorry, Brother Cobra. But add another against going after Westbrook. Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. We know what happens when we go after these splashy free agents. What we need to start doing is paying guys to come in and produce going forward rather than rewarding guys for past performance. Let lesser franchises like the Lions and the Raiders and the Redskins have the Tomlinsons and Westbrooks of the world. I want to see what Harrison and Davis can do for us. And if that’s not enough, maybe we can talk about drafting a guy. But free agent backs whose glories are as much past as Tomlinson and Westbrook’s are for bottom feeders. That can no longer be us.
