Holmgren says a QB will be added in the draft

Wallace
For those that were wondering, Mike Holmgren says it’s a for sure that the Browns are going to use a draft pick on a quarterback. Now the question will be what pick do they use, and more so what QB will they pick?

With 12 picks in the April 22-24 NFL draft — their most since 2000 — the Browns can go in a number of directions in the first year of the Mike Holmgren-Tom Heckert era. There is no mystery about one thing and that is they will draft a quarterback. “It’s just something we have to do,” Holmgren said. “Why wait? I’m 61. I don’t want to wait for anyone. We’re going to have to do this.” Holmgren has already overhauled the team’s quarterback roster by bringing in Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace and parting ways with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson but he knows the Browns aren’t going anywhere, aren’t turning the corner, until they find a young franchise quarterback. “I think Jake will make us better right away. But we have to find the next guy. That’s what we have to do,” he said.

Well let’s watch what happens in Denver and see
what might have been. There is no guarantee he would have panned out, but I think his chances were just as good if not better than the two new guys. But it’s time to let go and move on and hope it’s not another disaster, blow it up again, and on and on.

The way I see it is this: What they received for BQ was the market for him at that time. And when you see what Seattle gave up for untested Whitehurst, even more so. While I’m not terribly excited about Hillis, everything I’ve read about him seems to indicate that he might be a diamond in the rough — and far more compatible with whatever version of the WCO Cleveland is going to run. So, nobody else in the NFL was too awfully enthused about BQ, either. Do these guys know how to assess talent? I believe so. Certainly moreso than past front offices since the return of this team. Anyway you view it — depth, experience, talent — we are better at the QB position than a year ago, or even a month ago. Would I have liked to see BQ win it out? Sure, I would. But, he didn’t — even when he was playing for it during that ridiculous quarterback competition. So, he is where he because her performed the way he did, as I see it.
