Cleveland Browns Jerseys

What can Sheldon Brown do for you?

A day after the Browns best defensive player got arrested for one of the stupidest things I have ever heard of, the Browns land Sheldon Brown and Chris Gocong from the Eagles. The Browns gave up a 4th and 5th Round pick with also  Alex Hall. Alex Hall did show some signs of life for the Browns in his career but his inconsistency is probably the reason they decided to let him go.Brown and Cleveland promptly restructured his contract, a league source told ESPN Insider Adam Schefter. The Browns did not give Brown a boost in pay. But they converted a chunk of the money he had left on the last three years of his contract into guaranteed money paid in a signing bonus and added incentives. Brown last year had 1tackles,five interceptions  and one forced fumble. Brown is 31 years old and has nine years of NFL experience. Gocong has 44 tackles and one forced fumble last season.  I feel this move makes the Browns better today then what they were yesterday at these positions. Drafting Haden is still a very strong possibility but not as vital now. I would love for Berry to still be there at the 7th pick, with  the Browns then having a secondery that is atleast good enough to be competive in the AFC North. GoCong is still a young linebacker that could help this team next season, and years to come.

I wish I could be gung ho about this trade but my first reaction upon hearing about this deal was retching. Maybe I was just too dog tired after a long day of work and too full of Chinese buffet to be thinking clearly. But Brown seems like one of those players we bring in expecting him to be really valuable only to go to seed on us. And correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Gocong seen as a bit of a bust in Eagle circles? There’s a reason all it took was a couple mid-draft picks and Alex Hall to get these guys. The price tag does nothing to bolster my confidence in this move.

Nor it doesn’t help matters any that this feels like a move designed to justify taking a QB in the first round. Bradford and Claussen can kiss my glack. Get me a defensive leader already.

This was another solid move in an off-season full of solid moves. Mike Holmgren and Eric Mangini are focusing on bringing in veteran high-character players. Are they the flashiest players? No, but i believe that the priorities that our Leadership is displaying is important for a franchise that has been disappointing since 1999.

I have not posted for a while, but I am back!I heard Gocong is fillipino. I had a fillipino girlfriend I lived with for two years and she was lazy unless she was having fits of rage. I sure hope he is not related to her. If he is this could mean missed tackles, blown assignments and an occasional personal foul! Seriously,I think this could turn out to be a good acquisition.

Uh, well . . . hmmmm . . . from what I understand, Gocong is a better fit in a 3-4 defense that the Eagles 4-3, sort of like a Corey Williams in Cleveland being in a scheme that does not match his style of play. Brown has played well over the years and is a definite upgrade over McDonald, at any rate. This team will not be able to address all its needs in one draft. This tells me that Haden is not their target in the draft. More like a safety — and not necessarily Berry. Either Clausen or Bradford could fall, as well, now that Washington is out of the QB derby.
