Lombardi – Browns won’t take a QB early in Draft

There’s plenty of back and forth with the draft just days away about the talk of the Browns taking a QB – or not. Today Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post weighs in, saying that he is hearing the Browns are not going to take a QB early as some say they will.

I’m told the Browns are not going to pick a quarterback, that they’re going to draft defense with their first pick. In spite of Jon Gruden’s relationship with Mike Holmgren and his love of Clausen, the Browns are not going quarterback early.

Another country heard from — and he joins the chorus from the “Defense first, Defense second — and then maybe a QB” school of thought.

I was thinking…… I heard last week that Ben’s suspension won’t come til after the draft. NOw, all of a sudden it’s coming now. I wonder did Rooney request this move, in order to POSSIBLY facilitate a trade before the draft; so they would know if they need to pick a qb, and so the trading team knows how many games they are dealing with that they won’t have his services?
