Heckert talks about Hardesty

“Montario was a guy we really, really liked,” said Browns general manager Tom Heckert Jr. “This is another very, very tough football player. We think he’s very talented; he had a big year this past year.

“We talked to a lot of teams about moving up and we were kind of waiting to see how things fell,” he added. “Then, a couple running backs went in there and we were concerned. He’s a guy that we liked and we felt comfortable moving up and getting him.”

“He’s had some nicks, but we think he’s healthy,” said Heckert. “We think he’s healthy. He’s another kid we brought in and he should be fine.”

“He’s 224 pounds when we last saw him and he’s a very physical runner,” Heckert said. “He’s not just a straight-ahead banger. He’s got speed; he ran a 4.4-something at The Combine.

“We always said we were going to take the best available player and we weren’t going to stray from that,” he concluded. “That’s what we’ve done.”

    Dear Tom:

There were a few ways you coulda gone with this pick. OK. I accept the fact that you are the paid football talent — and I like the talent qualities of this guy. This could be a cool, thrifty move. Without having had the time to know who else was around when you did this and having yet to see thee guys play, I’m OK with it. So, you can relax, now.

I like the play end of this deal; the health end entirely depends on the advice and treatment he gets here, in the home of the cleve clinic and its providers and nutritionists and all.
let’s all hope for a good connection for him to the ‘right’ guys.
