Dawson in Camp, wont talk about Contract..

Phil Dawson was in Berea and looked a little rusty. That is normal for a kicker’s first day back since 2009. Phil chose not to talk about his contract, which could speak volumes about his feelings on his situation.  He currently has a base salary of 1 million dollars, which is in the lowerhalf of NFL kickers. The Browns kicker is the lone ranger left since the teams return in 1999.  He has made some amazing kicks over the years for the Brown and Orange, and has gone through many regimes since the team has come back to the League.

“I’ll say it loud and clear and I’ve taken a lot of heat over the years, kickoffs I think, is my strength,” said Dawson. “The amount of different kicks we do, the conditions we do it in, I feel good about how I’m kicking off and I’m going to continue to work hard to get even better at that.“As a competitor, you always want to prove people wrong,” he added. “There were a lot of people that questioned how long I’d stick around and I don’t blame them, but here I am. I still feel like I have a lot to offer and the fact that I’m still here is something to be pretty proud of.”

“You have to prove yourself anyways, especially in my position,” said Dawson. “There’s only 32 of them and there’s always somebody waiting for the phone to ring. Whatever the case may be, you have to prove yourself not only every year, but I think each and every day. That’s kind of been my mentality my whole career and that’s why an undrafted kid that no one expected much out of is standing here today.”
