Browns Ink WR Bobby Engram

The Browns have a new veteran wide out on the roster, as today the team came to terms with free agent wide receiver Bobby Engram. Terms of the deal announced Thursday were not disclosed.

The 37-year-old Engram had five receptions for 61 yards in five games last season with the Chiefs.

Engram, a 14-year veteran, was a second-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 1996. His most productive season came with the Seahawks in 2007, when he had 94 catches for 1,147 yards and six touchdowns.

Well at least Delhomme is not the oldest guy on the team anymore.

Probably did not give up much to get him, but he seems a bit long in the tooth to me. Not great production last year, but only 2 years out from his most productive season. Not much risk for I am not sure of the upside.

You know, I kind of like this move and I hope it works out for us better than when we re-signed David Patten last year. A veteran journeyman who can help the young guys figure out how to be a pro could be a good thing as long as we don’t have to rely too much on him. And from an off-field perspective, Engram could be the perfect guy for it. Never heard a discouraging word on him from either a locker room or police blotter perspective. Engram’s always been a depth guy and he can be a good one. Ideally we’d have Massaquoi and Robiskie starting, Engram in the slot, Cribbs doing his thing and Mitchell working on learning Engram’s slot role. Engram’s probably a one or two year guy at best. But if he can help the young guys figure outhow to be a pro, that’s good by me.
