Holmgren Thinks the Browns are Much Improved Over Last Season

In a case of stating the obvious, Browns President Mike Holmgren feels the Browns are better than last season, and it will show on the field in 2010:

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren thinks the team is better than last year. A city that is having a terrible time in sports – not just because of the LeBron James fiasco – Holmgren relishes the fact that all eyes will be on the team to turn their athletic woes around.

“It kind of juices you up a bit,” Holmgren said, per the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “If, in fact, all eyes are turned toward us now, that’s a good thing. That’s a pressure that helps you work harder, helps motivate coaches, players, management. I believe our team is better than last year, already.” Despite not making any blockbuster moves this offseason, it’s hard to doubt Holmgren’s opinion based on his track record alone. He believes the additions of Jake Delhomme and Senaca Wallace improved the team along with their draft picks. “I think the quarterback situation is much more solid and that improves a team immediately,” Holmgren said.

“By how much? We don’t know. But it’s solid. I know – I know – we’re in a better spot at that position than last year. The second thing, there are two or three of our rookies [who] are going to make a great contribution right away. They’re on the ground floor of a rebuilding program and they’re going to have the opportunity. The [defensive] secondary, which is a really important spot, we’re better there.”

Having had the chance to sit back and watch this develop over the past 6 months, I would have to agree that this team is in better shape than any of its previous incarnations — since its return, anyway. 2-3 rookies contributing immediately? You bet. Second round players should be on the field Year 1 in some capacity, IMHO. And, MoMass and Roby have to be better. Nobody knows what those guys are really going to look like. With Watson in the mix, Hardesty and Harrison, with Vickers — who can catch the ball, too, this could be an effective offense, especially when you add the Wildcat possibilities. Not explosive, overall, but effective.

  2. This is good news–I hope he’s right! Just glad they still have Josh Cribbs on the team! I can still wear my jersey with his name on it!!

I feel sorry for the Clevelanders who have LeBron jerseys.

What’s a LeBron Jersey?? Is that someone from Jersey? I don’t seem to remember anyone named that…what was it again?
