Former Browns Owner Speaks on LeBron James

Former Browns owner and another enemy of Cleveland – Art Modell, is speaking out on the newest and most hated player in Cleveland Sports – LeBron James. Modell, who is now 85, says the fans will continue their support despite James’ coward act to go to Miami.

“The fans will carry on, but there’s little they can do about it,” Modell said. “It was his call. He was a free agent. Too much was being made of it. He (went) on network television to announce what he was going to do. Too many dramatics. I resent the whole thing being turned into a three-ring circus.

“Anyhow, I wish him well. I wish (the Heat) well. And as long as I do well, I’m fine.”

James says Akron will always be his home. Likewise, Modell says his heart will always be in Cleveland, even though he hasn’t stepped foot in northeast Ohio in 14 years.

“LeBron James is in a difficult spot,” Modell said. “He’s devoted to a lot of fans there. I wish him luck. I wish Cleveland good luck. I still love Cleveland. Nobody could ever take that love away from me. Nobody.”

Sorry, but Modell’s and now James’ versions of loyalty are not the stuff that are consistent with my life. I could care leas about either of them. Magic said it best when he stated that he stayed where he was because he wanted to beat those other guys, not load up to try and dominate. That’s true love of the game — and that’s the stuff of legend. Modell and James? That’s just money and ego, respectively. Modell got his ring — but he had to leave his ownership to do it. James might get his, too. But I think the Celtics, Lakers, Magic and a few other teams will have something to say about it. I don’t see Kobe, Garnett, Howard, Duncan, and a host of others laying down so that these guys can crown themselves. Quite the contrary. If I were playing, I would love to be the ones giving them a big s***burger and making it all look ridiculous — relegating them to the scrap heap of sports history.

I’d like to see The Ego show up in Cleveland. Maybe someone in Akron still likes him – but that’s another town. He’s a loser who couldn’t do it in his own backyard. I’m taking my talents to the toilet – g’night Art.

Art, no one has to take it away from you. You through it away yourself. Your desperation for the 50 mill and pride to ‘show the politicians’ you didn’t like the way you were aksed to play second fiddle and wait one more year for a stadium of your own. Granted, it would have taken more than one year…but viable options for another combined stadium, one with a retractable roof, were on the table. It was your ego and pride. So don’t come sneaking around trying to test the waters with yoour sobb story. It ain’t working here. You were never the man you pretended to be.
