My thoughts about the Browns/Packers Preseason Game…..

Overall I think this was a success for the team in Green Bay this past Saturday. The Browns needed to come out strong to gain some confidence early in the Preseason.

THE GOOD

Jake Delhomme

Jake started off the game  the way I felt he needed to. Going 6 for 7, throwing for 66 yards and one Touchdown in his only series on the field. I haven’t seen a Browns Preseason start like that since they returned in 99. Now I know its only Preseason but I give him an A+.

Seneca Wallace

Wallace connected with Robiskie and Watson for Touchdown passes early in the game for the Brownies. Seneca showed his ability to elude defenders on his Touchdown pass to Robiskie on Saturday night. I liked how Both the Quarterbacks looked and the position looked better then last years two Quarterbacks.

Receivers

Both Robiskie and Massaquoi looked more comfortable at the position then they did last year. They combined for 6 catches with 68 yards. They do need to continue to grow for this team to capable of winning some games this season.

Phil Dawson

The kicker connected for a 58 yard field goal late in the fourth Quarter to tie the game. His game winner was a 46 yard kick that sealed the Browns win. Phil has been a great kicker for this organization since 99 and would get more recognition if the team would have had more success since 99.

T.J. Ward and Shawn Lauvauo

Both Rookies showed what they are capable of this season. T.J. Ward is a hitter and made some nice tackles in his first game with the Browns. Lauvauo started for team and played well for his first  game on the offensive line.

THE BAD

The Secondary as a whole. Rodgers was 10-11 and threw for 159 yards. I liked how the defense played but couldn’t put in the good category because of Rodgers performance. Rodgers is a elite NFL Quarterback and was a good test for this defense. The Browns were coming at Rodgers but were not able to knock him down which made it difficult for the secondary to compete.

THE UGLY

Colt McCoy looked like he was lost on the field Saturday. Throwing two interceptions and her never got into a rhythm with the offense. He left the game due to injury, but it doesn’t look to be serious. The kid needs to improve and has the time to do so sitting behind Wallace and Delhomme.

They looked like they were on the same page. This is pretty vanilla stuff at this stage of the season. No real schemes or offensive fireworks. It is all about reps and player evaluation. Basics are the true indicators about ability to play and last. How do they block? How do they run routes? Are they playing the gaps well? How do they tackle? How do they read? Veterans get reps and get out. Rookies and bubble players get reps and hopefully get paid.

Delhomme did not throw a touchdown pass. Jerome Harrison ran it in from the 7. The stat page during the game was wrong as well showing that we threw three touchdowns but only caught two.
