The biggest potential surprise is Davis. While I am disappointed about Hardesty, I cannot say that his knee injury is a total surprise, either. Remember, Davis is the guy who kept CJ Spiller on the sidelines while at Clemson. And then there is Peyton Hillis. They must be seeing something in Veikune that has not yet lit up my board, yet. I hope he works out. I agree with releasing draft picks that are not playing as well as other players. Asante and Geathers were both late round picks viewed with severe limitations on their games when drafted, as I recall. For sure, Haden and TJ Ward are bona fides, as is Lavao (sp — sorry) That makes 3 starters in one draft class — with Carlton Mitchell and Colt McCoy both making the team. Davis rising up from last year’s draft, combined with A Mack hopefully improving from last year — and suddenly everything doesn’t look so bad, after all. Barton and Bowens both survived — and both played well last year. Obviously, this team needs LBs — in a big way. Meanwhile, Kam Wimbley looks like a monster in Oakland — in pre-season, anyway.
