LB D’Qwell Jackson placed on IR; team inks WR Sam Aiken

The Browns today placed linebacker D’Qwell Jackson on injured reserve and signed wide receiver Sam Aiken, the team announced.

Originally drafted by Buffalo in the fourth round (127th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft, Aiken has appeared in 92 games with 11 starts during his seven-year NFL career, recording 47 receptions for 677 yards with two touchdowns. After spending his first five seasons in Buffalo, Aiken signed as an unrestricted free agent with New England, where he produced his best NFL season in 2009, registering 20 receptions for 326 yards and two touchdowns. He was released by the Patriots on September 4, 2010.

A four-year letterman at the University of North Carolina (1999-02), Aiken recorded 146 receptions for 2,205 yards with 15 touchdowns. As a senior, he set a single-season school records in catches (68) and receiving yards (990), earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference second-team honors. Born on December 14, 1980, the 6-2, 215-pound Aiken is a native of Clinton, N.C., and attended James Kenan High School in Warsaw, N.C.

He will wear uniform number 85.
