Wright says his 2010 season has been disappointing

If there’s one player that Browns fans seem to be on week after week, it’s CB Eric Wright.

He was the CB that was covering Santonio Holmes on the TD catch and run Sunday in OT, and it seems like week after week fans are talking about the lack of coverage that Wright brings to the team.

Wednesday in Berea, Wright was asked point blank about the season he’s having, and he said that it has been a letdown for him to be as bad as he’s been.

“I think I’ve obviously haven’t had the year that I expected to have. After going through the whole season pretty much playing press-man with no help and giving up limited production, I think I gave up maybe two touchdowns last year as well as limited production,” Wright said.

“To have a year like that and to come back and obviously give up a lot more production this early in the year, for me personally it has been disappointing. Obviously, I have a responsibility for this team to be a certain type of player and I’ve let my team down time and time again. I have to play better and until I can look into one of these guys eyes and they look me in the face and say, ‘I don’t believe in you anymore,’ I’m good. That hasn’t happened yet and I’m going to keep pushing and keep working.”

With Sheldon Brown down with a shoulder injury, Wright playing well is more important than ever, and it goes without saying he needs to turn things around ASAP when the team travels to Jacksonville Sunday.

Eric Wright showed promise — but this year has been a major disappointment. His play has cost many points and ripped the heart out of this team like Braylon did when he was here. The difference is, Wright recognizes his play and is not looking to blame anyone but himself. I can work with this — for a very short while. Think: Brandon McDonald, Ralph Brown.

eric wright has been a bright spot on a weak defense for the past three years. while his play has diminished this year minus the emergence of joe haden and tj ward he is the one player on the defense who is capable of a big play at any given moment. while the consistancy may not be there this year hes been as exciting as they come the past few years.
