Terry McCormick from the National Football Post has an interesting quote about what Pat Shurmur said about QB Colt McCoy, who went 19-for-40 in the teams 10-point loss to the Bengals last Sunday.
Browns coach Pat Shurmur didn’t mince words when talking about the play of quarterback Colt McCoy in Cleveland’s 27-17 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday. It has to improve, according to what he told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
McCoy was just 19 of 40 in the Browns West Coast offense for 213 yards. A 48 percent completion rate doesn’t cut it in today’s NFL, and Shurmur knows that.
“I think just in terms of general efficiency, there were some [passes] when you look at it and say, ‘My goodness,’ ” Shurmur said.
“I think what we’re trying to build here is guys that are willing to say, ‘I have to play better,’ and I think that’s what he’ll tell you,” Shurmur said. As for McCoy, he admitted, “I can be a lot more efficient.”
Agreed. But, remember, McCoy has not yet played 16 games as a starter. Also remember, the last 2 games of last year. Shurmer is correct: McCoy needs to start to deliver.
