Hillis Says He’s Worried About Not Getting a Long-Term Deal

RB Peyton Hillis says he’s now worried about not being able to sign a long-term contract extension with the club.

Hillis said Monday he has no regrets about sitting out Cleveland’s game on Sept. 25 with strep throat, a decision that fueled speculation he missed the game to protest not getting a new deal from the Browns. Hillis has said he wants to stay in Cleveland, but is now beginning to doubt that will happen.

Last week, Hillis’ agent, Kennard McGuire, told the AP he advised his client not to play for fear he had been weakened by the illness and could have gotten hurt. However, Hillis said he probably would not have played even with the advice and that he “did the right thing for myself and the right thing for the team.”

Suggestion to Hillis: do not call agent about decisions on whether to play or not. That is a player’s decision, made with coach’s input. You have a contract: honor it or quit.
