Update: Jason Pinkston Hospitalized

Lost among the excitment of the Browns first victory is the deteriorating situation surrounding Jason Pinkston’s health.

The second year guard has made big strides in throughout the 2012; however, he was visibly sick on the sidelines during the Cincinnati. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Pinkston has been admitted to the Cleveland Clinic with a blood clot in his lung. As things turned more serious during practice Wednesday, the decision was made to have Pinkston admitted to the Cleveland Clinic. It was during his trip to the ER room on Thursday that doctors discovered the clot, deciding to immediately admit him to the hospital and administer an aggressive treatment with blood thinners.

Several teammates have rallied behind Pinkston, making several visits to the hospital.

“He’s definitely been struggling with something for a couple of weeks, so there obviously a concern just to find out what was going on,” left tackle Joe Thomas said. “Hopefully they’ve got it under control and are able to help him start feeling better here shortly. He’s definitely in our thoughts and we’ll definitely keep him in our thoughts as long as he’s out.”

Pinkston is definitely ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Colts; however, this appears to be of little consequence given the present circumstances.

“As we go through next week, we’ll determine if he’s going to miss an extended period of time,” Browns coach Pat Shurmur said.

Let’s all wish Pinkston a quick and speedy return. This is clearly one of those times where football takes a backseat to life.
