Colt McCoy – No Ill Feelings Towards Coach Daboll

In Colt McCoy’s rookie season, he started 8 games at the QB position for the Browns. He wasn’t spectacular by any means, but he did just enough to prove to Mike Holmgren and Tom Heckert that he had the skill set to be a starting QB in the NFL.

McCoy’s offensive coordinator last season, was Brian Daboll, who is now in the same position with the Miami Dolphins – the Browns opponent in week three.

When asked if he felt the need to prove anything to Coach Daboll, McCoy’s answer was very respectable,

“No, coach Daboll from all that I’ve heard has been doing a great job in Miami. If you ask the guys in this locker room, we have respect for him. We played hard for him and we’re in a new situation now and we’re playing hard for our coaches here. My focus each day every time I step on the field is, ‘What do we have to do to move the ball on Miami’s defense.”

In fact, McCoy hasn’t thought much at all about playing against Daboll’s new team.

“I have nothing but respect for coach Daboll. We’re here now, we’re in a new system so all my time, energy and focus has been on what we’re doing and what Miami’s defense does. I really haven’t thought about it that much.”

In Daboll’s offense, McCoy went 2-6 as a starter, with his first start coming on the road against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game, McCoy threw for 281 yards on 23-33 passing with 1 TD and 2 INTs. In all, McCoy finished the 2010 season with 1,576 yards on 135-222 passing (60.8%) with 6 TD and 9 INT. He also finished the season with a passer rating of just 74.5.

The Cleveland Browns (1-1) host the Miami Dolphins (0-2) on Sunday. The game is set for a 1:00 PM EST kickoff.
